July 13th – 14th, 2013
Hosted by Lilly Clinical Open Innovation
Organized by Social Health Insights
2013 #HC4H 1st Place Winner – MedMaid.com
MedMaid.com is a mobile application that seeks to reduce medication adherence errors. The winning team, comprised of health technology entrepreneur Willie Pritchett and web designer/developer Carolyn Bernier, met at the event, formed a concept, and developed their solution all within the course of the weekend.
2013 #HC4H 2nd Place Winners – Carefindr.com
Carefinder.com is a website that allows users to easily compare hospital prices and ratings. Each member of the solution team, comprised of Mark Stetzer, Praneet Loke, and Ben Chesnut, works at Centric Consulting but the code-a-thon was their first opportunity to work together on a project.
What was the Hoosier Code 4 Health?
The Hoosier Code 4 Health, held in conjunction with the Hoosier Healthcare Innovation Challenge, was Indiana’s first ever health-focused code-a-thon.
What was the purpose of the HC4H?
Indiana is a leader in healthcare and technology innovation. While we are growing by leaps and bounds, we saw an opportunity to help make connections between those with various skill sets and interests, that in turn would sprout new ideas, innovations and companies.
What problems was the event looking to solve?
We looked for solutions with the potential to positively impact chronic disease management. Chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes are prevalent in our state. In 2010 total expenditure on chronic diseases was $29.4 billion (yes, this is in billions) dollars (http://www.in.gov/isdh/files/Chronic_dis_burden_10-15-10__5_.pdf) and growing.
